FORMER BL HABERT EMPLOYEES DEMAND PAYMENT OF THEIR SEPARATION PACKAGES

BY MONDE PHIRI

Former employees of BL HABERT an American Company that was sub-contracted to  construct the American Embassy in Lusaka’s Ibex Hill about 8 years  ago have appealed to the  US Ambassador to Zambia to help them  recover their separation benefits.

The employees disclosed to Komboni Radio news in a walk-in interview that the American company that had employed them at the time the embassy was being built has up to now not paid them their dues.

The employees added that 700 workers have been affected out of which some have died without getting their gratuities.

The workers further alleged that some officials at the Zambia’s labor office could have connived with the BL HABERT suppress the matter saying the company owner had initially agreed to pay them but suddenly went mute regarding the matter.

The employees have since urged the American Embassy which also advocates for respect for human rights and dignity to use its goodwill to urge the company to pay them.
