A nine months old baby has died on the spot after being hit by a vehicle in Chalo-Bantu area of Mandevu constituency.
Aunt to the deceased baby only identified as Catherine who confirmed the development to Komboni Radio news said the incident happened yesterday in Chalo Bantu area.
Chisanga explained that the infant who has been identified as Joyce Chisanga met her fate after a female learner driver lost control of the vehicle she was driving and careered off the road and hit the infant’s mother who was carrying her on her back.
She says the child died on the spot while the mother who has been identified as Hellen Masiku sustained injuries and has since been discharged after being examined at the clinic where she was rushed for medical attention.
According to residents, the driver of the motor vehicle is reportedly on the run while the owner of the vehicle has handed himself to the police.
Meanwhile, residents of Chalo-Bantu area have expressed disappoint over the alleged failure by the police in the area to investigate the matter.
The residents charged that the police have not shown any interest to apprehend the suspect despite the accident having been reported by the victim’s relatives.
