Over 400 houses risk being demolished i in Lusaka’s Makeni Simson area after residents allegedly built their houses on privately owned land.
In an interview with Komboni radio news, the affected residents who protested this morning after they were alerted that the houses where going to be demolished called on their civic leaders to intervene in the matter.
The residents pleaded with government to intervene and prevent the people who are claiming ownership of the land in question from demolishing their structures as they have spent huge sums of money to build those properties and have nowhere to go to.
This morning residents in Makeni Simson area blocked the roads and lit fire in the middle of the road in protest over the pending demolition of their structures.
It is believed that the owner of the land in question took the matter to the court and the court ordered the demolition of structures that have illegally been built there.
The court also ordered the Zambia electricity supply cooperation to disconnect power supply from the said illegal structures.
