35 FAMILIES IN DILEMMA OVER EVICTION FROM THE LAND THEY HAVE BEEN FARMING ON

Dilemma has gripped about 35 families of Sunkutu village in Kasama over reports that they may be evicted from the land they have been farming on for years now.
The land in question was reserved for the extension of the Kasama-Pensulo transmission line by TBEA which was contracted by ZESCO.
However, according to the letter addressed to the Paramount Chief Chitimukulu dated 21st September 2016, TBEA requested for land for the site camps but wrote that the land which it did not occupy be given back to the local people for farming.
But the residents have accused the village headman of trying to grab the land from them.
The residents have further expressed disappointment that the village headman has allegedly reported the mater to police to arrest anyone who will be found farming on the said land.
