KAPIJIMPANGA CONGRATULATES NEWLY ELECTED INDIA’S VICE PRESIDENT

Zambia’s High Commissioner to India JUDITH KAPIJIMPANGA has congratulated India’s former Broadcasting and Communications Minister VENKKAIAH NAIDU on his election as 13th Republican Vice President.

Mrs. KAPIJIMPNGA says the election of Mr. NAIDU from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is an indication that India’s democracy continues to thrive as the opposition also put in their best.

She says the mission in India is happy to note that on August 5, 2017, the Republic of India’s Parliament elected the former Cabinet Minister as Republican Vice President after obtaining 5- hundred and -16 votes against the opposition’s United Progressive Alliance –UPA candidate GOPAL KRISHNA GHANDI, who polled 2- hundred and -44 votes.

The Zambian top envoy to India has explained that the Vice President who is also the Chairperson of the Upper House of the Indian Parliament will further act as Speaker.

Mrs. KAPIJIMPANGA has further congratulated out -going Republican Vice President HAMID ANSARI for a successful completion of his second term.

She says it is encouraging to note that the opposition candidate, the former West Bengal Governor and other opposition leaders have congratulated the new Vice President, which she says is good for a thriving democracy especially that he was being supported by nineteen opposition political parties.
