KALINGALINGA AND HELEN KAUNDA RESIDENTS BEMOAN HIGH GARBAGE COLLECTION FEES

Residents of Kalingalinga and Hellen Township have bemoaned what they term as exorbitant fees being charged for garbage collection.
The residents have observed that the fees which have been pegged between 50 and 80 kwacha are too high for most of them to afford.
They have charged that the high charges have discouraged most of the residents from subscribing for garbage collection a situation that has contributed to the indiscriminate disposal of waste.
One of the residents Mwila Namwila called on the council to ensure that the fees are made affordable saying this will allow most of the people to subscribe for waste management.
And a when contacted for a comment, Lusaka City Council acting public relations manager George Sichimba said the council has set a range in which prices for garbage collection are to be pegged.
Mr. Sichimba has since advised residents to engage companies collecting garbage to negotiate for affordable prices.
