200 HOUSES IN LUSAKA’S KUKU COMPOUND RISK COLLAPSING DUE TO STAGNANT RAINY WATER

BY KALALUKA MUSHAUKWA
At least 200 houses in Lusaka’s Kuku compound risk collapsing due to stagnant rainy water that has surrounded the houses.
A Komboni radio news crew that visited the community today found a number of houses partly submerged in water.
Meanwhile, residents have appealed to Chawama Member of Parliament Lawrence Sichalwe and other civic leaders in the community to engage the Lusaka City Council to pump out the water from their premises.
Mr Larry Chiludika lamented that the current situation has made the mobility of residents in the community very challenging as they are unable to live their normal lives.
And the residents have attributed the floods in the community to a nearby dam that has been filled up following heavy rains that the city has experienced.
The residents have since pleaded with the local authority to respond swiftly as they also fear for an outbreak of Cholera in the community.
