EMPLOYERS URGED TO IMPLEMENT REVISED MINIMUM WAGE-ZCTU

BY OSCAR NKUWA

The Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has expressed concern at the manner employers are defying the amended labour law and not adhering to the revised minimum wage.

ZCTU Director of Public Relations and International Affairs Martin Chembe has charged that all employers must comply with the amended law and ensure that they pay their workers according to the revised minimum wage.

And Mr Chembe has urged the Ministry of Labour to come up with regulations that will spell out how the amended labour law should be adhered to adding that the employers must not use ignorance of the law as an excuse for failing to pay employees the revised minimum wage.

Meanwhile, Mr Chembe has observed with concern that workers in the country are under paid and has since challenged union leaders to sharpen their bargaining skills.

He stated that even in the face of austerity measures, workers in the country deserve to get decent salaries.
