LCC REBURIES REMAINS OF DEAD PEOPLE THAT WERE EXHUMED DUE TO HEAVY RAIN

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has reburied the remains of dead people that were exhumed due to heavy rain at Chingwere cemetery two weeks ago.

A team of LCC Public Health Officers conducted the exercise over the weekend.

And the council through the Engineering Services Department has engaged a contractor, Treo Zambia Limited to construct the main permanent drainage that includes stone pitching at a cost of about Six Hundred Thousand Kwacha (K600, 000.00) for a start.

LCC Director of Engineering Bright Banda disclosed that works have since started and so far 5 percent of the works have been done.

Mr Banda says the construction of more drainages will follow in due course so that the flow of storm water could be controlled.

The Council is appealing to stakeholders to come on board and assist in the construction of more drainages in the cemetery to avoid a similar occurrence in future.

A week ago, a team of LCC officials discovered human remains that were exhumed at Chingwere cemetery following heavy rains experienced in Lusaka.
