Some concerned youths in Lusaka have condemned the exorbitant charges that men are asked to pay as bride price when they want to marry.

Speaking in separate interviews with Komboni Radio News, Kennedy Mutale says it is unfortunate that many families in the country have commercialized the bride price commonly known as Lobola.

Mutale charged that families now want to make a fortune from their female children disregarding family values of bringing two people together in unity.

Another youth Brian Kalukwesa says it is regrettable that families have misinterpreted marriage and consider their female children as a major source of wealth.

Mr Kalukwesa adds that this has lead to many parents marrying off their children at an early age as a way of alleviating poverty in their families.
