Southern Africa Center for Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) Executive Director Boniface Chembe has expressed disappointment with the approved 75 percent hike in electricity tariffs.

In an interview with Komboni radio news, Mr. Chembe notes that the electricity tariff adjustment will only affect domestic consumers and not mining companies and other commercial industries.

Mr. Chembe said government should have prioritized the interests of poor Zambians who will find it hard to afford these tariffs.

The SACCORD executive director has observed that ZESCO should have increased tariffs for the mining companies and other commercial consumers because they are the largest consumers of power in the country.
