GOVT URGED TO EMPOWER EX-PRISONERS FOR REINTEGRATION IN SOCIETY

A concerned Lusaka resident has urged government and other stakeholders in the country to come up with empowerment programmes for ex-convicts.

Speaking in an interview with Komboni radio news, Stephen Mwape has noted that lack of empowerment programmes and the negative attitude towards ex-prisoners has resulted in most of them to go back to their old habits and eventually back in prison.

He stressed that it is against this background that government and other stakeholders should come up with programmes to empower ex-prisoners so that they are reintegrated in Society.

And Prisons Care and Counseling Association (PRISCA) Executive Director Godfrey Malembeka, said that his association his working with government to ensure that ex-convicts are reintegrated back in society.

Dr Malembeka explained that it is against this background that the Zambia Prisons Service was changed to Zambia correctional service to help empower ex-convicts in order to prevent them from going back to their old habits.
