Over 150 fishing nets have been confiscated from illegal fishermen during the ongoing fish ban operations along Kabompo River in Kalumbila District.
Kalumbila District Fisheries and Livestock Coordinator ATHERTON JERE
has confirmed the development.
Mr. JERE further disclosed that over 50 fishermen were caught along Kabompo River and other areas since the fish ban operation commenced last in December in the district.
He encouraged farmers to diversify into fish farming to avoid
conflicting with the law during the fish ban period.
The District Fisheries and Livestock Coordinator has since warned all
illegal fishermen involved in the unsustainable and illegal fishing activities during the fish ban and after to desist from such vices
or risk being arrested.
