The Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) in Northern Province has instituted investigations into the matter, in which a senior civic leader at Mungwi District Council is alleged to have impregnated a grade nine pupil of a named school in Kasama.
YWCA Northern Province Coordinator Zilot Phiri who disclosed the sad development says the organization has since instituted investigations into the matter.
And reliable sources reveal that the named civic leader took advantage of the girl whom he had offered a lift from Kasama to Mungwi and sexually abused her resulting in the pregnancy.
They add that the civic leader has taken advantage of financial status of the girl’s family to settle the matter outside the court on pretext that he will marry her.
The sources have since called on YWCA, and police to ensure that the culprit faces the wrath of the law.
