UPND SYMPATHIZES WITH POLICE OFFICERS OCCUPYING CRACKED HOUSES IN KASAMA

BY SYLVESTER KAUMBA
The United Party for National Development-UPND says it sympathizes with police officers and widows occupying leaky and cracked houses at the old police camp in Kasama.
Northern Province party mobilization committee member, Everist Chela stated that reports of the said houses collapsing are worrying.
Mr Chela who acknowledged that the camp houses were built in the colonial era, pleaded with government to urgently address the state of affairs before lives are lost.
He charged that it is a shame that police officers could be staying in such horrific houses; a situation he said has instilled fear on the affected families.
Last week, some police officers talked to on condition of ano-ny-mity lamented that they fear for the lives of their families as the said houses have started collapsing.
And an occupant of a house that collapsed on Thursday, Mary Chinyama alleged that those charged with responsibility have failed to show leadership regarding their concerns.
