PROPOSAL TO REMOVE DETAILS LINKED TO A TRIBE ON THE NRC OPPOSED BY RESIDENTS

Some Lusaka residents have opposed the proposal by President Edgar Lungu to remove details linked to a tribe on the National Registration Cards (NRCs).

Speaking in separate interviews with Komboni Radio News, residents charged that the removal of village and chief of the person’s origin will be a disservice to the country’s cultural heritage.

Simon Kambole also observed that removing certain information on the NRCs will make it easy for foreigners to illegally acquire NRCs.

And Ruth Daka who also echoed the same sentiment has emphasized that all the details currently on the NRCs should be maintained adding that tribalism can only be overcome through co existence.

Recently President Edgar Lungu asserted plans to relook details on NRCs that have a tribal connotation as a way of fighting tribalism.
