Vice President and acting President, Mutale Nalumango, officially launched the 2024 Mining Local Content Conference and Expo yesterday in Kitwe District Copperbelt Province which aims to bolster local participation in the mining sector.
In her remarks, Mrs. Nalumango emphasized the pivotal role of manufacturers as catalysts in business transitions, highlighting their importance in advancing the country’s economic growth agenda.
She noted that the “Proudly Zambia” campaign is one of the government’s strategic platforms designed to develop local expertise within and beyond the mining industry.
Mrs. Nalumango also urged local manufacturers to meet the standards required by mining companies.
Minister of Mines and Minerals Development, Paul Kabuswe, who also spoke at the event, stressed the need for the President to enact legislation that will protect and guide local manufacturers in the value addition chain, enhancing their participation in the industry.
Copperbelt Province Minister, Elisha Matambo, praised the Zambia Association of Manufacturers for organizing the event in the province, noting that it comes at a time when mining sector is being revitalized.
Additionally, Zambia Association of Manufacturers President, Ashu Saga, highlighted the importance of such platforms in creating synergies for local suppliers, enabling them to add value to various minerals, particularly copper, and thereby strengthening local content in the market.
