The Medicines Research and Access platform (MedRAP) has called on the Ministry of Health to shift focus from individual prosecution to implementing systematic reforms aimed at addressing persistent theft of medicines and medical supplies.
This follows the United States Government’s decision to withdraw $50 million in Health sector support citing theft and reselling of medicines meant for free distribution to the public.
In a statement made available to Komboni News, MedRAP Director Mr. Liyoka Liyoka is of the view that the move by the US government is being done as a protest to compel the Zambian Government to take appropriate action to correct the situation that is currently existing in the health sector.
Mr Liyoka said that the response given by the Minister of Health Honorable Elijah Muchima is not adequate to assure the people of Zambia and the donor community that appropriate action is being taken to address these issues.
