Kitwe Woman, 31 Dies After Being Beaten by the Husband

A 31-year-old woman has died after allegedly being beaten by her husband in Mulenga Compound, Kitwe.

Copperbelt Police Chief Peacewell Mweemba has identified the deceased as Agnes Daka, a housewife, who was reportedly involved in a domestic dispute with her husband, Francis Mwaba, aged 34.

Mr Mweemba said the incident occurred between 11:00 hours and 22:15 hours on January 15, 2025.

According to the landlord, Joseph Phiri, the couple was last seen together on January 14, drinking beer before an argument broke out.

On January 15, the husband was heard questioning and fighting with the deceased after she returned home late.

By 11:00 hours, Ms. Daka was no longer seen outside, and her three-year-old child was found unattended by the landlord.

Mr Mweemba explained that later that evening, Mr. Mwaba returned home in a drunken state, took the child, and reported his wife’s death to the police.

He said officers who visited the scene found Ms. Daka’s lifeless body in a one-room apartment with visible multiple cuts on her legs, a swollen left hand, and a suspected fractured leg.

Mr Mweemba also said the walls of the room were stained with blood.

He added that the body has been taken to Kitwe Teaching Hospital Mortuary for postmortem, and Mr. Mwaba has since been arrested as investigations continue.
