Bus Drivers Elated with Impending Increase in Their Minimum Wage

Some bus drivers in the Central business district of Lusaka are elated with the pronouncement by government to increase their minimum wage.

Expressing their joy to Komboni Radio News in separate interviews, the motorists said the gesture by government could not have come at a better time than this when they are grappling with economic hardships.

They explained that the increment from K2,200 to K3000 monthly income will help them address some household challenges they are currently facing.

The bus drivers have since called on bus owners who are their employers to ensure that they implement the newly pronounced minimum wage.

Government through the Ministry Of Labor and social security announced an upward adjustment in the minimum wage for bus and truck drivers.

Labor and social security Minister Brenda Tambatamba disclosed that bus drivers will now be getting K3000 compared to K2,200 they were getting while their counterparts the truck drivers have been elevated from K3000 to K4000
