Disability Rights Watch National Coordinator Bruce Chooma, has expressed concern over the exclusion of persons with disabilities on the cash for work program.
Speaking in an interview, Mr. Chooma, said persons with disabilities have been excluded in participating on cash for work program, a situation which has seen a number of questions from the affected people.
He said according to the ministry of local government, the criteria which was established for cash for work program has excluded beneficiaries of any social security programs including Social Cash Transfer where most of the persons with disabilities are beneficiaries.
Mr. Chooma, said in as much as every program has its own purpose, it would have added much value if persons with disabilities who are able to work, were considered to participate.
He further charged that the government should have come up with a way of complementing Cash for work and Social Cash Transfer programs adding that not every person with a disability is a beneficiary of Social Cash Transfer.
