Lusaka Water Urges residents to desist from vandalisation

The Lusaka Water supply and sanitation company has urged members of the public to refrain from vandalizing the company’s infrastructure.

Company’s Public Relations Manager Ruth Mulenga says the company has observed that some residents of various compounds in Lusaka are disposing off materials such as plastics, sanitary towels, diapers which are causing frequent blockages leading to sewer spillage.

Ms. Mulenga further disclosed that the theft of manhole covers and illegal opening of manholes to divert storm water into the system are worsening causing overloads in the system beyond it’s carrying capacity.

She also indicated that last year alone, the company addressed over 15,000 sewer related complaints as a result of vandalism stating that much needs to be done by members of the public to protect the infrastructure which serves them
