The Alejo Community Support Project, in partnership with the Churches Health Association of Zambia (CHAZ), has donated 60 bicycles to 60 Community-Based Volunteers (CBVs) in Kitwe district on the Copperbelt. This donation is expected to make their work easier as they disseminate information on child health and immunisation to community members.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Alejo Community Support Project Executive Director Alex Mutale emphasized the critical role that CBVs play in supporting the health sector, particularly in rural and hard-to-reach areas. Mr. Mutale noted that CBVs are the foot soldiers who work tirelessly to reach out to communities with vital information on child health and immunization. He noted that they often face challenges in terms of mobility, which hinders their ability to effectively carry out their duties.

Mr. Mutale added that the donation of bicycles made possible through the support of the Churches Health Association of Zambia, will enhance the mobility and effectiveness of the CBVs.

Speaking at the same event, Kitwe District Health Director Dr Francis Liywali warned the CBVs against misusing the bicycles while urging them to guard them jealously.

Meanwhile, the CBV members have applauded Alejo and its partners for the gesture.
