Gynecologist and Obstetrician, Dr. Whyson Munga, has disclosed that the country has seen a number of maternal deaths occurring, as a result of unsafe termination of pregnancies.
Speaking in an interview with Komboni Radio News, Dr. Munga, said there are a lot of complicated unsafe abortions that are ending up in hospitals as kidney failure while others end up mortalities.
He said there is need for stakeholders and the residents to understand the laws of the country and information being shared on safe abortion to avoid mortalities.
Dr. Munga, said the target in reducing unsafe abortions, has not been mate due to information gap as people do not know where and how to access the services in government health facilities.
He noted that in as much as safe termination of pregnancy is free in government facilities, people must understand the process, as they need to go through counselling to enable them make an informed decision.
Dr. Munga, added that people make decisions of abortion due to lack of information and counselling stating that when given the right information, others end up keeping the pregnancy.
He has since called for concerted efforts in information dissemination to ensure the people receive the right information to avoid unsafe abortion related deaths and illnesses
