A 1-year 8-month baby has been reunited with its mother after it was trafficked to Mozambique at 7 months old in October last year.
Speaking upon receiving the child in Lusaka, mother to the child Beatrice Mambo emotionally narrated that the child was stolen in Lundazi by a named lady whom her husband had brought in to live with them and introduced her as his niece.
Ms. Mambo explained that on the fateful date, she went to fetch water leaving her child in the care of the lady, and discovered that the child was missing together with the lady who equally eloped with the children under 5 cards
She explained that the matter was reported to the Lundazi police, and investigations were instituted, which led to the discovery of the child by the Zambia Police through Interpol.
Speaking during the handover of the child, permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Community development Angela Kawandami thanked the Zambia police and their counterparts in Mozambique for the smooth retrieval and repatriation of the child
