Traders in the central business district of Lusaka have expressed their concerns about the degraded kwacha banknotes currently in circulation.
Namate Mubita, one of the traders, told Komboni Radio News that he is having difficulty negotiating with customers due to the faded banknotes.
Charles Banda, another affected trader, mentioned that the 2 kwacha, 5 kwacha, and 20 kwacha notes are among the most faded.
The traders have appealed to the Bank of Zambia to address the issue promptly.
In response, Bank of Zambia Governor Denny Kalyalya acknowledged the situation and assured that the bank is working to resolve it. However, Dr. Kalyalya encouraged the public to adopt digital transactions instead of relying on physical cash.
