Following the revocation of its land administration agency in January of this year, the Kitwe City Council has only been able to generate 8 percent of its target revenue from land services.

This information was presented by the Council’s Director of Finance, Dedu Sakala, during a review of the 2024 budget and a summary presentation for the 2025 budget.

Mr. Sakala explained that the loss of land administration rights has significantly reduced revenue from this sector. As of September 30th, the council has collected approximately K239.2 million, supported by both local sources and a central government grant, from a total budget of K455 million.

He noted that K87 million in contributions from Mopani Copper Mines and the Constituency Development Fund have been major contributors to the council’s income.

Mr. Sakala expressed optimism, stating that the council aims to collect the remaining K215 million by the end of the year to ensure that planned projects are successfully implemented by December.
