Dakota Stores Faces Copyright Infringement for Selling Counterfeit Jerseys

Dakota stores in Mufulira District on the Copperbelt is facing charges in a case of copyright infringement involving the sell and marketing of counterfeit Mufulira wanderer's replica jerseys.

The matter was reported to Police on October, 15, 2024 at 14:30 hours by Mufulira wanderers Chief Executive Officer-CEO Clement Nyirenda.

Speaking to Komboni news, Copperbelt Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba disclosed that, the Clubs CEO Mr. Nyirenda complained to police on behalf of the club that unknown persons of Dakota investment limited were selling and marketing counterfeit Mufulira wanderers’ replica jerseys without copyright consent from the management.

Mr. Mweemba stated that, acting on the information, investigation were instituted which led to the apprehension of zhuang xianga a chinese national from Dakota and Hope Kapya an employee of Dakota and the seizure of one counterfeit jersey.

He adds that preliminary investigations indicate that the accused might have ordered the said jersey from a source unknown to them and started selling them in their store namely Dakota investments limited located at Mufulira mall.

Meanwhile, the Copperbelt Police Commanding chief has revealed that the suspects have been detained awaiting verdict.
