Kafubu Water and Sanitation-KWSC has cited lack of expansion of water treatment plants in the district has one of the contributing factors to the current water crisis.
The utility company’s regional manager, Felix Nsonde said in the past, Mikomfwa water treatment plant only distributed water to council houses but with the coming in of new residential areas the demand has gone up.
Mr Nsonde highlighted that the mine also had its own system source from Makoma catering for stipulated population of people.
And the KWSC Supply Superintendent, Godfrey Malwa said that at its inception, Mikomfwa water treatment plant had a limited population of consumers, and over the years that has evolved, therefore the utility company intends to scale up its system to meet the demand.
This was revealed during a stakeholder’s tour at the various water treatment plants in the district.
