Kitwe Council Cracks Down on Illegal Waste Dumping—11 Nabbed in Two Weeks

Kitwe City Council Public Relations Manager Mwaka Nakweti says the local authority has intensified its enforcement efforts in the fight against indiscriminate waste disposal.

Ms. Nakweti tells komboni news that, Five more individuals were apprehended yesterday for illegal dumping, bringing the total number of offenders to 11 within just two weeks.

She urges parents and guardians to stop sending children to discard waste irresponsibly and instead teach them proper waste management practices from an early age.

She emphasizes that children must be protected and not used to carry out illegal acts.

She calls on the general public to make use of designated waste collection points and bins and play their part in keeping surroundings clean.

Ms. Nakweti also urges motorists and passengers to refrain from throwing litter out of moving vehicles, emphasizing that this is not only illegal but also dangerous.

She adds that drivers should caution their passengers and ensure their vehicles, especially public transport like taxis and buses, are fitted with waste receptacles to encourage responsible disposal.

Meanwhile, Ms. Nakweti reiterates Kitwe City Council’s commitment to its vision for a clean, green, and healthy city.
