Man shot and robbed K120,000 in Ndola

A 29 year old man of Ndola district has been shot and robbed of K120,000 by unknown criminals, an incident which occured last night around 21:00.

According to Copperbelt Province Police Commissioner Pathias Siandenge, the victim, identified as Alfred Chilufya who works for a named company as a cash collector arrived at 24/7 MTN booth at Front page Kabwata area within Ndola’s central business district from Baluba area along Kitwe road where he had collected K120,000 cash money using a motorbike registration number ADF 341 around 21:30.

Mr Siandenge explained that the victim found his workmate at the same booth which operates 24/7 and after a while, Chilufya sat at the counter and started counting some money from the bag he had whilst on the floor of the counter as his colleague kept on working.

Later on, the two moved out of the booth and the victim’s workmate went to buy some water, leaving Chilufya on the motor bike ready to leave the area, it was at this point when three armed criminals with a pistol attacked the victim.

The Copperbelt Police Boss explained further that Chilufya was first shot on his left leg and the bullet protruded from side to side which made him to fall from the motorbike, whilst on the ground the criminals kept on kicking and stepping on his head which led to bleeding from his ears but he resisted from surrendering the bag which had the money hence shooting him on his right leg and one of the criminals managed to finally grab the bag from him.

A mob near the crime scene mobilized and attempted to rescue the victim, but the criminals fired one shot in the air, neutralizing the attempted rescue .

Mr Siandenge added that the criminals sped off in a white unregistered Toyota Mark-X.

Meanwhile, the victim was later rushed to Ndola Teaching Hospital for treatment by his friend with the help of other onlookers.

Police visited the victim at the Hospital who was found in pain, with gunshot wounds on both legs as one protruded the left leg while the other was stuck in his right leg, but was able to narrate the incident.

The scene of crime was visited and three empty cartridges for a pistol were found and picked from near the motor bike where the victim was shot at.

Mr Siandenge concluded by stating that a motorbike was retrieved and taken to Ndola Central Police Station for safe custody, a docket of case opened, no arrests nor recoveries have been made so far, while describing the victim’s condition as slightly stable.
