Copperbelt Province Police Commanding Officer, Peacewell Mweemba, has confirmed a tragic incident in which a 30-year-old illegal miner, Luckson Kachusha, lost his life in a mine accident at the OB16 Dumping mining site in Kapisha area, Chingola district.

Mr. Mweemba tells Komboni news that, Kachusha, along with three friends, trespassed onto the mining site, owned by China Copper Mine (CCM), and began illegally mining copper ore before the tragedy struck when the earth pile collapsed on him, causing fatal injuries.

He revealed that his friends managed to retrieve him, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries.

He narrated that, the incident was reported to the police by the deceased brother, Derrick Kachusha, who informed them of the tragic events.

The police rushed to the scene and processed the area, before transporting the body to Nchanga North General Hospital, where it was certified dead and deposited at the mortuary awaiting postmortem and burial, an inquiry file into the incident has been opened, and further investigations are underway.
