The Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested and charged two Public Prosecutors from the National Prosecutions Authority (NPA) based in Kalomo District for corrupt practices involving K17,000.
Juliet Banda, 40, of Boma area, Kalomo and Mwandi Muyumbana, 40, of Plot No. 2640 Highlands, Lusaka have each been charged with one count of Corrupt Practices by Public Officer, contrary to Section 19 subsection 1 of the Anti-Corruption Act Number 3 of 2012 of the Laws of Zambia.
It is alleged that Juliet Banda, being a public officer, namely Public Prosecutor for the NPA, between 1st July 2022 and 19th August 2020, in Kalomo District, did corruptly solicit for K7,000 gratification from two named individuals as an inducement or reward to obtain a judgement in favor of a named accused person.
It is also alleged that Mwandi Muyumbana, being a public officer, namely Public Prosecutor for the NPA, between 1st July 2022 and 19th August 2020, in Kalomo District, did corruptly solicit for K10,000 gratification from a named individual as an inducement or reward to obtain a judgement in favor of a named accused person.
The duo have been granted bond of K10,000 and are scheduled to appear before Honorable Kabalata at the Livingstone Subordinate Court on 24th February, 2025 for plea and possible commencement of trial.
