Farmers in the Kitwe district are increasingly concerned that the country may be headed for another dry spell, following several days without rainfall.
The farmers are calling on the Meteorological Department to provide accurate weather updates, enabling them to prepare for the possibility of insufficient rainfall.
Speaking in an interview with Komboni News, one farmer, Francis Kasenge, explained that, already he has begun to feel the effects of the dry spell on his field.
Mr. Kasenge says his crops are starting to wither away, and the soil is becoming increasingly dry.
And Happy Musichili, another farmer, has implored the government to plan ahead, anticipating another dry spell.
He adds that the situation is worrying, hence the need for government to take proactive measures to support them, such as providing irrigation systems.
