Fatal Hit and Run Claims One Life In Mpongwe

A fatal hit-and-run road traffic accident occurred on December 13, 2024, around 19:30 hours along Machiya Road near Mpongwe River in Mpongwe, claiming the lives of two people. Copperbelt Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba confirmed the incident to Komboni Radio News.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident involved an unregistered Boxer Motor Bike with a damaged headlamp, ridden by 40-year-old Kaunda Moses of Mpongwe. Moses sustained head injuries and a bruised right arm. The motorbike also had a passenger, identified as Sakala, aged between 40 and 46 years from roads near the Mpongwe river, who sustained a deep cut on the stomach and a bruised face.

Tragically, both Moses and Sakala died at Mpongwe Mission Hospital, and their bodies have been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting post-mortem.

Confirming this development to Komboni News, Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba revealed that the accident also involved an unknown motor vehicle with unknown damages, driven by an unknown driver who failed to stop after the accident. The circumstances surrounding the accident are still being investigated.

The police have launched an investigation into the accident and are appealing to members of the public who may have witnessed the accident to come forward with information.
