The Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation (ZESCO) says it is investigating the cause of the countrywide power disruption which occurred last night at about 20:15 hours.
Addressing the media in Lusaka this morning, ZESCO Acting Managing Director Justin Longo disclosed that Zimbabwe equally experienced the power cut at the same time as Zambia due to the system disturbance which splits the Zambian power network from the Zimbabwean network.
Mr. Longo has since announced that the power utility company has reduced the power supply from 7 to 3 hours.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry Of Energy Peter Mumba disclosed that during the countrywide power outage, some miners at a Chinese company in Chambeshi and Mopani mine at Mindolo shaft were trapped.
Mr. Mumba however stated that no fatalities were recorded as alternative power was provided and the miners were retrieved.
