Fire has gutted the main kitchen at Kitwe Teaching Hospital, leaving various equipment worthy of thousands of Kwacha damaged.

Hospital Senior Medical Superintendent, Dr. Chileshe Mboni confirmed the incident to Komboni Radio in a phone interview, stating that the fire broke out early this morning around 05:00 hours.

Dr. Mboni revealed that the fire is suspected to have been caused by an electrical fault.

He added that by the time the fire brigade located just a few meters from the hospital arrived, the fire had already been extinguished.

Dr. Mboni said repairs are currently underway to restore the damaged kitchen.
