The Kitwe City Council has expressed serious concern regarding an unfortunate incident that occurred on Saturday, November 9, 2024, when personnel from the Kitwe Fire Brigade were attacked while responding to a fire emergency in Mindolo.
In a statement provided to Komboni News by Public Relations Manager Mwaka Nakweti, it was reported that at approximately 6:40 AM on that day, the Kitwe Fire Brigade received a distress call about a fire in a shop attached to a residential house.
Upon arriving near the location, the fire crew faced unexpected resistance from some community members, who engaged in unruly behavior by throwing stones at the fire engine. This vandalism resulted in damage to the vehicle, breaking the windshield and one side window and making it unsafe for the crew to continue their firefighting efforts.
As a result, the Kitwe Fire Brigade was unable to extinguish the fire effectively, further jeopardizing lives and property in the community.
The local authority has condemned this behavior, emphasizing that such actions delay or halt emergency services. They urge the public to support emergency responders in their mission to keep the community safe.
