Heavy Rains Cause Graves to Sink at Chingola Cemetery

Due to the heavy downpour that Kitwe District has been experiencing recently, graves at the Chingola Cemetery are reportedly sinking, raising concerns among the public.

In an interview with Komboni News, concerned resident Mark Kaira expressed his discontent with the current situation at the graveyard. He emphasized the importance of respecting burial sites, stating that it is troubling to see graves sinking without any apparent concern from the authorities.

Mr. Kaira also highlighted the importance of family members visiting the graves, particularly during the rainy season, to ensure they are well maintained. He believes that maintaining the graves is a significant way to show respect for the departed.

Meanwhile, Twatasha Ward Councillor Felix Mwalumuna described the situation as a natural occurrence. He explained that graves often sink if the soil is not properly compacted during the burial process.

However, the civic leader reassured the public that a plan would be put in place to inform the families of the deceased so they could visit and care for the sites.
