Cooperative Directors Arrested for Unauthorized Waste Management Operations

Two directors of the Chaitungu Multipurpose Cooperative in Kitwe district, Copperbelt, have been apprehended for forging a council document and operating in an unauthorized Waste Management Zone.

In an interview with Komboni News, Council Public Relations Officer Emmanuel Lupikisha explained that this discovery was made during a spot check at UCZ St. Margaret’s Congregation along Independence Road, where health inspectors were assessing compliance with waste collection subscriptions.

The two individuals identified as Mwamba Bundu, Secretary, and Davis Tambatamba, Vice Chairperson of the cooperative, were arrested on November 7, 2024, after it was revealed that the company hired to collect waste in the area was operating illegally.

Mr. Lupikisha also reported that the documentation provided by the church, which purported to be from the waste collection company, was found to be forged. This led to the individuals being turned over to the Zambia Police for prosecution.

Additionally, the individuals whose contact information appeared on the forged council letter were summoned, and the council subsequently reported the issue to the Kitwe Central Police, resulting in the opening of a docket.
