President Hichilema Urges Agriculture and Energy Sectors to Reduce Rain Dependence

President Hakainde Hichilema has bemoaned the drought situation which has adversely impacted both the agricultural and energy sectors.

Mr. Hichilema says the current drought situation, should serve as a lesson, stating that there is need for the country to stop depending on the rains in order for the agriculture and energy sectors to thrive.

The President has further encouraged farmers in the country to diversify, start water harvest to irrigate so that the country can have food as opposed to a total dependence on the rains.

And on the energy sector, the head of state re-echoed the same sentiment by emphasizing on the need shift to other sources of energy as opposed the use of hydro for power generation only, which has proven not to be sustainable in case of a drought.

Mr. Hichilema said this yesterday during the National Day of Prayer Fasting and Reconciliation in Kitwe district.
