President Hakainde Hichilema has called upon the clergy to ensure they instill moral values and offer support to young couples to avoid marriages crumbling. Speaking during his keynote speech in Kitwe during the National Day of Prayer, Fasting and Reconciliation, President Hichilema stated that the Church has a vital role to play in stabilizing marriages adding that marriage should be between Man and Woman and not anything else.
And responding to the call by the President, Ndola-based Bishop Nelly Chikwanda who spoke to Komboni News in a telephone interview stated that young people must have a relationship with God before marriage as it will guide them on what to expect in a marriage, adding that the Church should continue should continue to counsel both yet to be married young people and those who are already married.
Bishop Chikwanda also express concern with the current structure of marriages where young people are concluding on uncalled for principles of marriage.
And director of a youth led NGO; Lead foundation, Lucky Kalunga has attributed the crumbling of young people's marriages to harmful traditional and cultural norms.
