Kitwe residents have been urged to wash their hands properly and regularly to protect themselves from diarrheal diseases.
Speaking during the commemoration of World Handwashing Day held Tuesday at Chisokone Market, Bulangililo Combined School, and Mutende Primary School, Kitwe City Council Health Education Officer Mashingo Samwata emphasized that improper handwashing can lead to diseases such as cholera.
Ms. Samwata advised residents to maintain good hygiene practices, especially as the rainy season approaches.
Nkana Water Supply and Sanitation Company Quality Assurance Officer Morris Mwanza also addressed the gathering, assuring residents that the utility company is working tirelessly to ensure the water supplied is safe for both handwashing and consumption.
Meanwhile, Nkana Water Community Mobilization Officer Gwen Mwila stressed the importance of maintaining clean and well-managed toilets to prevent the spread of diseases.
Some pupils from Bulangililo Combined School and Mutende Primary School also shared their thoughts on the importance of handwashing.
