Zambia Army Commander Vows Action Against Recruits After Mufulira Scuffle, Raises Security Concerns

Zambia Army Commander Lieutenant General Geoffrey Zyeele has revealed that adequate action will be taken to handle the recruits who caused a scuffle in the CBD of Mufulira where some members of the public where harmed.

The Army Commander revealed that contrary to social media reports that 500 recruits were in the CBD, only 12 were subsequently stating that only 2 civilians were injured including the Kankoyo member of Parliament Heartson Mabeta.

He further stated that there are serious security concerns in Mufulira as there are confirmed reports that some ex-convicts and foreign Military soldiers being in the forefront of perpetrating the law, adding that there is a growing concern with civilians wearing military regalia in public, a situation he stated that should be contained.

And responding to the Army Commander’s statement, Copperbelt Province Minister Elisha Matambo stated that the Provincial administration is concerned with the reports about the recruits who acted in an uncivil manner, adding that the coming of the Army Commander signifies seriousness of the army and the current administration at large in fostering peace
