Permanent Secretary Administration in the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development Maambo Hamaundu says government is aware of the challenge people in rural areas face in accessing clean and safe drinking water.
Speaking during the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry and Uptime global company aimed at providing safe drinking water to Mumbwa and Nalolo districts, Mr. Hamaundu said access to safe drinking water is a basic human right that every citizen is entitled to.
Mr. Hamaundu explained that it is for this reason that government is engaging various stakeholders in ensuring that the commodity is readily available.
Has since urged recipients of the water projects in Mumbwa and Nalolo to remain patient as they await for governments interventions.
And speaking earlier Uptime Chief Executive Officer Duncan McNichol said his company is delighted to partner with the Zambian government to provide clean and safe drinking water to the citizenry.
He noted that Zambia is still grappling with the challenge of providing safe drinking water especially in rural areas hence uptime coming on board.
