Abandoned Mkubwa Structure Sparks Crime Fears in Mushili Township

A structure which was started in 2015, meant to be a police station in Mushili township of Bwana Mkubwa Constituency in Ndola District on the Copperbelt Province has been left to be a white elephant since 2018 and this has raised concerns from residents of the area.

Speaking to Komboni News, residents of Mushili township lamented how the unfinished building has become a hub of youth led gangs known as junkies and a public toilet facility where people answer their calls of nature at any point as well as a smoking booth for drug and marijuana users.

The residents narrated how they are being victimized by junkies as early as 19:00 and this has caused panic and fear as they are unable to safely move about once it gets dark

During the inspection of the building by the Ndola district commissioner accompanied by the Mushili ward area Councillor Cindy Kaluba, the misuse of the structure was evidenced after the inspection team found a middle-aged man who was caught pants down in an attempt to have sexual intercourse with a 15 year old girl, but managed to acrobatically evade through an open space leaving the girl behind, prompting residents of the area to appeal to government to expedite the completion of the structure for their safety

Speaking after the dramatic ordeal, a visibly worried District Commissioner Joseph Phiri has assured the residents that the completion of the structure will begin immediately the surveyors from the Ndola City Council submit their findings of the strength of the structure.
