Zesco Installs Diesel Powered Generators In Markets In Lusaka

ZESCO Limited has installed diesel powered generators in some of the Council-run markets to facilitate alternative supply of electricity amidst the load-shedding the country is experiencing.

Lusaka City Council Public Relations Manager Chola Mwamba says nine markets in the city have benefited from the installation of generators which is a huge win towards improving reliability of power supply in the markets and will stabilize revenue collection by the Local Authority.

The nine markets that have been installed with power generators are Kamwala, Kabwata, Chainda, Chilenje, Nyumba Yanga, Chelstone, City Market, Soweto and the recent one being Matero Market.

Ms. Mwamba adds that the installation of generators will enable the smooth running of businesses in the markets especially those that entirely rely on electricity such as barbershops, saloons, bakeries, butcheries and welders among others.

She also noted that the alternative power supply will also improve on the supply of water in the markets that have boreholes and depend on electricity to pump water.

Ms. Mwamba has since implored all traders and business owners operating in these markets to guard the installed generators jealously and avoid vandalizing them.
