A suspected murder investigation is underway in the Copperbelt region following the death of a 26-year-old woman, Florence Mwandila, found in a decomposed state inside her boyfriend's home in Kapisha Compound.
According to Peacewell Mweemba, the Copperbelt Police Commissioner, the alarming report was made by the victim's sister, Heaven Mwandila, 23, who was alerted by a friend of the deceased.
The friend, Mwansa, contacted Heaven after receiving a tip about Florence's death from the property owner, Bana Clevant.
Heaven, along with Bana Clevant and another friend, discovered the body on September 22nd.
They arrived at the residence after a distressing phone call, only to find the front door ajar. Inside, they were met with a somber scene: Florence's lifeless body was lying on the bed, showing clear signs of trauma.
Witnesses claim that a neighbor had already notified the police about the situation, leading to the apprehension of the victim’s boyfriend, James Banda, who is currently in custody at the Nchanga Police Station.
Officers reported finding the deceased with visible injuries, including bleeding from the nose and mouth, swollen eyes, and a protruding tongue.
The body has been sent to Nchanga North General Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination, as the investigation continues. The police are urging anyone with further information related to this case to come forward.
This tragedy has shocked the community of Soweto and Kapisha Compound, raising concerns about safety and violence.
