Residents of Lufwanyama district have continued to complain about inadequate water supply in the district.
Most boreholes are said to have dried up while others are getting damaged due to servicing a large population.
Chieftainess Shimukunami of the Lamba people has since wondered why Nkana Water Supply and Sanitation Company is delaying the commencement of Lufwanyama water supply and sanitation project whose objective is to put a sewer and water network in the Central Business District and the surrounding areas.
Speaking when the Minister of Water Development Collins Nzovu paid a courtesy call at her palace yesterday, the Chieftainess said failure to do so, the people of Lufwanyama will think government is not being honest on some of its promises of providing adquate quality water supply to the people.
In response, Mr Nzovu directed Nkana Water to immediately commence the Lufwanyama Water supply and sanitation project to address the water challenge in the district.
Mr Nzovu acknowledged that water is a challenge in the Lufwanyama and that the government was working tirelessly to make water available to the people using different means
Nkana Water Manager Water and Sanitation Frank Mulundu said about 52 million USD is needed to commence the Lufwanyama water supply and sanitation project
Mr Mulundu said engineers are done with the designs, and once funds are available, they will start the works.
