Governance activist Leslie Chikuse has opposed the proposed revision of the marriage act to consider any girl below the age of 21 as a child.

In an interview with Komboni Radio News, Mr Chikuse has since urged government to consult widely before tabling the matter in parliament.

He explained that the revision of the marriage act to consider any woman below the age of 21 as a child is against the universal definition of a child which is anyone below the age of 18 years.

Mr Chikuse who is also Republican Party Vice President has since urged government to embark on massive sensitization programs especially in rural areas on the importance of education in efforts aimed at ending child marriages.
